My name is Halleh Farahmand, and I am a student in the Bachelor of Education program at the University of Regina. I graduated from York University in 2009 with a B.A in Sociology. My plan was to apply for teacher’s college in Ontario after I completed my degree, but my life took a different direction. In 2013, I became a certified Hatha Yoga instructor in Hawaii and in 2015 I received my diploma in Natural Nutrition and gained the designation of Certified Holistic Nutritionist.
I am originally from Toronto,ON. I moved to Thomson Lake, SK in 2015, as my husband obtained a teaching position with Prairie South School Board. He is one of the many people in my life who are teachers. I am surrounded by some incredible educators who have encouraged me to follow through with my dream of becoming a teacher.
Our courses thus far have had a focus on Treaty Education. As I have recently been exposed to much of this content, I have quickly realised that I would like to learn more about how to integrate these teachings in the classroom. Specifically, I’m interested in how Treaty Education can be embedded in math and science.
Furthermore, learning about students of all abilities is another goal I have in my placement. The design and implementation of IIP’s for students of all abilities is a challenging task, and the different theories and strategies to help students reach their full potential fascinates me, so I would like to learn more about the process.
Lastly, I hope to learn about classroom management. A strong basis in classroom management helps to ensure students remain on task. I would like to learn some of the different methods used in the classroom to address concerns and connect with kids. I would also like to obtain tools to address students in suitable ways to develop long standing rapport with them and to help guide them towards their goals.
